Restoring, rebuilding and revitalizing all those landscapes that we degraded and destroyed is the imperative of our time. Urban intensification, active family planning, and curbing rapid population growth are prerequisites for societal development that respects planetary boundaries.”

Yes, a major part of the problem is that the human population has grown so large that there is little spare water. Formerly, people could move to regions unaffected by drought. There are no empty habitable spaces left to where people can move.

There are many people using meltwater from glaciers that started to recede 20,000 years ago. There is concern about the last glacier melting. However, if the climate were to cool substantially, there would be less melting, but river flow would still decline, creating a shortage of water.

To quote Pogo, “We have met the enemy, and it is us.” The comic strip ‘Pogo’ no longer exists. Many people have either forgotten the wisdom of Pogo, or were never exposed to it.

Except for floods, earthquakes, and volcanic eruptions.
